Lessons From Mexico

Last night we had the wonderful opportunity to listen from an amazing couple from Mexico. Since they could not converse in English we had translators. It was truly an international event and of world class standard.

The couple, Enrique & Graciela are just normal ordinary people like you and me but with a dream to have a better life. Today they are a member of the Herbalife Founders Circle Team. They said that they started out looking for an opportunity but today in Mexico, people are looking for them!

They truly embrace the vision of Herbalife's founder Mark Hughes which is to bring good nutrition to everybody in the world. Not only are they successful but their 2 children are also Pressident's Team members!

It's really inspiring how they started their journey. 21 years ago, Enrique was bankrupt and was very sick as he could only work 5 hours a day hence he could not earn that much. Luckily Graciela was working and had a good job to help support the family.

Enrique saw an advert from an American company and went to see the opportunity. At first he saw the products for himself . He started of at 100kg ad has lost 25kg and has kept his weight for the past 21 years! Awesome!!! But after listening to all the testimonials he realized that the Herbalife products was also good for his mother, his wife and also his children who were not getting the right nutrition.

First and foremost Enrique was looking for an opportunity to make money. He loved the Herbalife opportunity because:
1. You can have as many customers as you want. There is no limit!
2. You can take as much time as you need to build your business. There is no time frame.

In Mexico, financially it is very tough. Some countries might have a financial problem for a year or two but for Mexico it is a financial problem every single year.

The most important lesson that I learned fro this couple is that we need to teach our people to SERVE and not to SELL. It's a system. You will need to develop and grow yourself. Become more sociable and kinder with people.

Today, they have more than 10,000 distributors in their group. How did they create their team? The majority of their team were people who were looking for ways to overcome difficulties in their lives such as not having a job, divorced and also people who had children problems.

They developed the best team in Mexico, followed by the best team in Latin America and today they are the #1 Herbalife distributor from a total of 2 million distributors worldwide! Wow! What an achievement!

The best thing about what they shared is that they started at the age of 42. From their travels around the world they have seen very young people who start the business at aged 20. There are also other countries where people start at 70 ad by 80 years old they are President's Team members. It doesn't matter when you start as long as you start and complete the journey.

As they say, you don't have to be great to start! But make sure you finish what you start as a habit of successful people finish what they start.

I was truly inspired and I hope that my sharing has inspired you as well.

Lessons Learned From My Late Grandfather

Recently, my mum asked me to prepare a speech for her to deliver at the Speech Day for one of the secondary schools in KK. I was thinking and I thought that the best thing to share was the lessons that I learned from my late grandfather Dato' Ibrahim Abdullah, my 'Tok'.

During my childhood, I often stay with Tok and he always had advises and stories to share with me on life and how to be successful. To me Tok was an incredible person. Coming from a poor family background, he worked hard and to me he was a success. He went to IPSI (today known as UPSI), became a teacher than a headmaster and he was eventually made a senator for 2 terms. At 40 years of age he already had 40 acres of land and he managed to give all his children a house each. His house alone was a 3 storrey bungalow with it's own swimming pool and badminton court. What a kampung to go back to every school holiday.

Anyways, one of the lesson that he taught me was the 5 Simple Steps To Success!

1. DECIDE ~ Buat keputusan untuk berjaya! You must decide that you want to succeed. Tok had this saying, Jika kita hendak berjaya kita akan berjaya which meant that if you want to succeed, you will succeed. Success comes to those who wish for it and to those who decide to be successful. The problem is that most of us never decide to be successful. Once you decide, the rest is easy.

2. GOALS ~ Tetapkan matlamat! - Visualize & bayangkan diri anda di bangku universiti atau mesti ada 40 ekar tanah. Tok always had a vision and he knew what he wanted. We must have goals for everything that we do in life. It's not only in wealth but it must also be with God, our health and success. Set a goal that is SMART in nature. :) Make sure your goal is something that you can strive for. It must be something that you really want, it must motivate and inspire you. It must be your WHY!

3. PLAN ~Buat rancangan (plan) - If you don't plan than you plan to fail. Once you decide and you have your goals clear in your mind than you should formulate a plan to achieve it. Few people plan that's why only 20% of the world's population are successful and achieve their goals. Once you know your why the how to becomes irrelevant. No matter what you will find a way. The best way is to plan.

4. ACTION ~ Ambil tindakan - Kerja kuat! Bak kata tok tak mati pun kalau kerja kuat. Kalau letih, tidurlah. Now that we have plan we need to work the plan. There's no point if we have decide, have a clear goal and have a workable plan we need to make it work. The hardest part is being discipline to work the plan.

5. PRAY ~ Doa & tawakal kepada Allah
Once we have put in the first 4 steps now all we need to do is leave it to God. There's a saying that if God lead us to it, than God will help us to see through it. InsyaAllah you will have success!

Lessons @ Chilli Peppers Kuching

Alhamdulillah, just got back from Kuching. Had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with our mentor, Cikgu Razak. As always Cikgu is the ultimate host. Upon picking me up at the airport we went to Chilli Peppers in Kuching for a bite to eat. There we met up with 2 of Cikgu's group. I had the privilege of learning two valuable lessons.

1. Regarding Herbalife, this gentleman said that the uniqueness about the Herbalife product is that it can help those who want to lose weight, gain weight and maintain weight. Everybody takes the same product which is the F1. Amazing! You can get more info at http://peaklifestyle.com/real/coi

2. Believe, the other gentleman shared with us the power of believe and the importance of thinking outside the box. He said that he had the ability to stop a moving bus with his finger. He said that he had the power to do it. What he meant was that with the finger you just need to press the bell and the bus will stop. Technically speaking, one can stop a bus with their finger!

Never Too Young To Take Care Of Yourself

Yesterday we had the wonderful opportunity to attend the NEW product launch for Herbalife Malaysia which was the NW formula. It was introduced by a Dr from Taiwan who sits on the Herbalife Nutrional Board.

What was interesting and also an eye opener was the facts that he shared. It was very informative and very helpful. The event itself was amazing with a few thousand in attendance and the presentation was done in Chinese. We had to tune into our translators which were also provided either in Bahasa or English. It was truly an international event.

Anyways yesterday we realized that with today's research in medicine and also in health and personal wellness we should take advantage of all the studies done. I truly believe that prevention is better than cure. It is better to pay to stay healthy rather than to pay to get healthy. The second option always cost you more in fact a recent survey showed that the number 1 reason why people get into money problem is due to high cost in medical or hospitalization bills.

For me, my health is very important and I have taken myself for granted for so many years. I simply ate what I wanted, no exercise, my sleep pattern was erratic and I really did not take any supplement. What happened? Well last month I had the scare of my life when I woke up around 2 am in the morning with some chest pain. I went to the Emergency ward and the doctors thought I had asthma. I told them that this was different. They did an ECG and it showed that I had a heart attack.

Wow! At that point I was scared. Alhamdulillah after a few check ups I am ok. Apparently it was a spasm due to high cholesterol. For a few days I could not sleep and I was very worried. I kept thinking about the after life. I know I'm not ready to face Allah. I kept thinking about my wife and kids. When it happens you really need to look at your life and what has brought you to this point. I made a decision that I want to be healthy!

Now I am on the Herbalife program. First to reduce my weight and reduce my cholesterol. The products are fantastic. They won a noble price for it. 60 million people have benefited from the products. So who am I to argue.

The point that I wanted to share is that after yesterday's meeting I am more convinced that we need to educate ourselves and our family on the importance of taking care of our health. Our lifestyle and the demands of society today is very bad. We really need to look at what we are doing for ourselves.

Alhamdulillah, I have started on the F1 shake again and have lost a few kilos. Did you guys know that according to studies breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that the ideal time for taking breakfast is between 5am until 9am. SubhanAllah, when I heard this it's amazing because that is why in Islam when we fast we need to do our Sahur. Allah knows best and for those who have the wisdom can see this. Taking a meal after 9 am is no longer considered breakfast! Please take note.

I'm also taking the fish oil soft gels which can help reduce my cholesterol and blood pressure. Apparently studies have also shown that it can help you to avoid becoming nyanyok or getting Alzheimer's disease as you grow old.

The most exciting product has to be the NW or Night Works. It can help to promote the NO inside your arteries which will allow for better flow of your blood in your arteries. It is an amazing product especially for all of us to fight the silent killer which is the visceral fat in our bodies. You really need to do a check. At the moment my visceral fat rating is terrible. I'm at 12 and my goal is to to 3. InsyaAllah I believe with Herbalife I can do it!

From now on we want to make it our mission to promote health living for all our family and friends because at the end of the day your health is your wealth. Let's pray to Allah that we will be blessed with health for our mind, body and soul so that we may continue to serve Allah better. InsyaAllah.

5 Foods that Keep You Thin

1. Apples
Apples are a good source of dietary fiber. Dietary fiber not only contributes to a healthy digestive system and reduced cholesterol, but it also benefits smart eaters by yielding no calories while keeping them satisfied.

And there's something else about the fruit that might help you feel full. A study in the journal "Appetite" found that when women added either three apples or three pears to their daily meals, they lost more weight than people who added three oat cookies to their diets -- even though the fruit and the cookies contained the exact same amount of dietary fiber.

Although the reason behind this finding may be a mystery, there is something to be said for the findings. According to Alan Aragon, a nutritionist and author of "Girth Control: The Science of Fat Loss & Muscle Gain," crunchy foods in particular can trick a person into feeling fuller. The act of chewing may send satiety signals to your body, he says, making you think you've eaten more than you really have and keeping hunger at bay.

2. Almonds
If you're looking for a tasty midday snack, a handful of almonds are a well-regarded option. A study in 2009 in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" found that women who ate nuts at least two times a week were more successful at keeping weight off than those who didn't eat this food.

One particular favorite among some nutritionists is almonds, says Aragon. One ounce of this food contains only 167 calories, plus it packs roughly 6 g of protein and 3 g of fiber, both nutrients that can make you feel full. Furthermore, like apples, almonds are crunchy and require a lot of chewing, so they, too, can make you feel like you've eaten more than you actually did and keep you fuller longer.

3. Salmon
If you're uncertain about fish, there's no need to fear. Seafood can be part of a healthy diet. And there's some evidence that the fat in foods such as salmon can boost satiety levels, says Aragon. For example, a study published in the "International Journal of Obesity" found that when dieters ate salmon a few times a week, they lost about two more pounds than those who didn't include seafood in their meals.

And in spite of the mention of salmon's fat content, the food is relatively low in calories. One 3-oz. serving has just 175 calories. Salmon is a good source of protein as well.

4. Eggs
There's no doubt that protein, like fiber, has impressive satiating powers. And while eggs seem to have a bad reputation in some circles, there can be no contesting their ability to help keep your weight in check.

Research has shown that eating eggs at breakfast can help you fight weight gain all day long. A study reported in 2008 in the "International Journal of Obesity" found that when dieters ate two eggs for breakfast for five days out of the week, they lost 65 percent more weight than dieters who consumed a bagel in the morning. Although protein is likely to fill you up whenever you eat it, some scientists suspect that having more in the morning can keep you feeling fuller all day long.

5. Tomatoes
It's true that most veggies make for great diet fare. Non-starchy vegetables in particular, such as carrots, celery and spinach, are filled with fiber. Like other foods high in fiber, they can help keep you feeling satiated.

Plus, they're pretty self-regulating, says Aragon. You can't really overeat with nonstarchy vegetables. After all, how many baby carrots can a person eat without needing to dunk them in some ranch dressing?

So while there are many veggies that can help you stay slim, tomatoes might be a particularly good option because they're so tasty. And, besides, with that whole a-tomato-is-a-vegetable-no-it's-a-fruit argument, you might have forgotten all about eating them. One cup of cooked, red tomatoes contains just 43 calories, but tastes just as delicious as any number of high-calorie foods.

And that's at least half the secret, finding foods that are both healthy and tasty. The good thing is, they do exist. Over time, you'll discover what wholesome, filling foods you prefer, expanding your choices while shrinking your waistline.

10 Businesses You Can Start for $500 or Less

Read this article by John Riddle this morning and I find it to be very true not just in the US but also applicable here in Malaysia. Check it out, there are really a lot of ways that you can make money here in our great country. I have spoken to a lot of foreigners and they say Malaysia is the best! I've also put in some of my own thoughts into it. Enjoy!

By the way we are also  looking for a team for our very own business. If you are interested YOU might want to check out our Real Wealth website at http://PeakLifeStyle.com/real

10 Businesses You Can Start for $500 or Less

by John Riddle

Summary:
Do you want to start a business but don't have much money to spend? It can be done. Starting a service business is often the answer.  Here are ten business ideas that can be launched for $500 or less in startup funds.

You've probably read about people starting their own businesses with very little money and making a fortune. And it can be done -- particularly if you're starting a service business. But a word to the wise: for every success story there are dozens of failures that go unreported. The key to improving your chances for startup success is to be smart. Be honest with yourself about your willingness to work hard and research the business you plan to start before you jump into the new business pool.
The list of business startup ideas below represents just a few of the many different types of service businesses you can start with limited funds. If none of these suit you, think of what other type of service you could provide and start using similar tactics.
  1. Pet Care – pets are a billion dollar industry in the United States, and there is a growing demand for new Pet Care businesses. You can start small, then grow and expand your services as you attract new clients. Some of the pet care services you can offer include: feeding and walking, grooming, or visiting a client’s home and caring for their pet while they are on vacation. - here in Malaysia the demand for this kind of service has increased! You can see from the number of pet shops and vets popping up everywhere. You can start a simple service in your neighborhood. It works!
  2. House Cleaning – it seems like everyone is too busy to clean their own homes these days. The demand for good house cleaners seems to grow each year. In this business, word of mouth will be your best advertising. So find your first client (friend, business associate, someone from church, etc.) and start small. - this is another fantastic idea. Recently we have been receiving a lot of simple leaflets offering services such as house cleaning & part time maids. One day I saw my next door neighbor and we thought that they just got a new maid but it turns out she was just a day time maid. Meaning she would come during the day and do the daily chores. You don't have to provide them with a place to sleep and you just pay as they come. How convenient!
  3. Auto Detailing – this is another business that people are looking for in their hometowns. Professional auto detailers can charge as much as $150 to $250, depending upon what services they provide. - there's a lot of demand for this as you can see the number of cars here in Malaysia. On top of that there are just so many people out there who would spend money on their cars. For this however you need to know what you are doing.
    1. Freelance Writer – if you have every dreamed about seeing your name in print (and getting paid at the same time), freelance writing might be in your future. Writers Digest magazine is an excellent resource; you’ll find lots of great articles on how to break into the writing industry. - there is a great demand for this especially copy writing a good sales pitch. You can offer your services to anybody who wants to do marketing, It is a skill and an art that can be developed.
    2. Property Management – many property management companies first started out as house sitting businesses, then evolved as the need arose. Note: property management is a demanding business, and you need very good “people skills” in order to be successful.
    3. House painter – if you like to paint, this business can be a real goldmine for you. Whether you want to specialize in indoor or outdoor house painting, it is another business where “word of mouth” will help you grow. - Man, this is another great business opportunity. If you love to paint you can make some real money. We had a painter who was charging us only RM80 a day. He painted our house and he made RM800 for 10 days. He told me that on average he works 20 to 25 days a month and he would make about RM1600 to RM2000 a month. Not bad for a painter!
    4. Handyman – with most families holding down two jobs these days, there is little time for even those small repairs around the house. If you have the skills and a few tools, working as a handyman will provide you with a business that will keep growing. - There is a huge demand for this kind of job. People are just too busy and they just don't have the time. You can even make your service unique by offering your service at odd hours!
    5. Landscaping – although this is a seasonal job, for many people it can be a year-round venture. If you like cutting and trimming lawns and bushes, raking leaves and working outdoors, starting a landscaping business is something you should consider.
    6. Website Designer – if you like working on the computer and have no problem designing Websites, then get busy NOW and launch this venture. There seems to be an endless supply of clients who need new Websites. - with all the available online apps now this is a great opportunity. but you need to be passionate about it!
    7. Party and Event Planner – are you good at organizing parties and events? If so, this business might be worth pursuing. The party business has grown into a billion dollar industry, and people everywhere are looking for help to create “the perfect party and event! - almost everyday in Malaysia there is an event. It could be weddings, aqeqah, a simple kenduri, birthdays, family days and etc. Almost all of these events need planning and coordination. You can be the solution provider!
    Before You Leap
Whether you plan to choose one of these 10 business ideas or a business idea of your own, take this little quiz before you proceed. Your answers will let you know if you have what it takes to launch and succeed in a new business:
    1. Do you believe that your business will succeed?
    2. Are you prepared to do whatever is necessary to make your business a success?
    3. Are you willing to work for little or no salary during your start-up phase?
    4. Do you know who your competition will be?
    5. Do you have a sales and marketing plan in place?
Unless you answered “yes” to all of the above questions, you might not be ready to hang out your shingle just yet. Take some time, do some research and then when you are confident you are ready to launch, then go for it!
PS - By the way we are looking for a team for our very own business. If you are interested YOU might want to check out our Real Wealth website at http://PeakLifeStyle.com/real

You guys are the best!!!

Anyways semasa sesi tersebut saya dapati kebanyakkan masalah pelajar ini adalah tiada support dari rumah. Sekadar ke sekolah sahaja tidak mencukupi lagi hari ini. Keadaan semakin mencabar dan saingan memang sengit tetapi pelajar-pelajar ini sudah tidak kisah. Antara perkara yang kita boleh buat untuk anak-anak kita adalah;

Anak2x akan seronok sebab very interactive.

Sekiranya anak2x ada masalah di sekolah kita kena tanya diri kita apa sumbangan kita. Anak2x adalah amanah. Biarlah kita bersusah sedikit sekarang dari susah kemudian. Remember Knowledge is POWER!

NEVER Use Your Mobile Phone At The Fuel Pump!

Please send this information to ALL your family & friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while pumping gas. If this were to happen, they may not be able to get the children out in time.
MUST READ, EVEN IF YOU DON'T OWN A CAR.
Shell Oil Comments - A MUST READ!Safety Alert! Here's some reasons why we don't allow cell phones in operating areas, propylene oxide handling and storage area, propane, gas and diesel refuelling areas.

The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning after three incidents in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fuelling operations

In the first case
, the phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during fuelling; it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.

In the second
, an individual suffered severe burns to their face when fumes ignited as they answered a call while refuelling their car!

And in the third
, an individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they were fuelling their car.

You should know that: Mobile Phones can ignite fuel or fumes

Mobile phones that light up when switched on or when they ring release enough energy to provide a spark for ignition

Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fuelling lawn mowers, boat, etc.

Mobile phones should not be used, or should be turned off, around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust, (I.e., solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust, etc...)

TO sum it up, here are the Four Rules for Safe Refuelling:

1) Turn off engine

2) Don't smoke
3) Don't use your cell phone - leave it inside the vehicle or turn it 0ff
4) Don't re-enter your vehicle during fuelling.

Bob Renkes of Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to try and make people aware of fires as a result of 'static electricity' at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires.
His results were very surprising:

1) Out of 150 cases, almost all of them were women.
2) Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle while the nozzle was still pumping gas. When finished, they went back to pull the nozzle out and the fire started, as a result of static.
3) Most had on rubber-soled shoes.
4) Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished. This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires.
5) Don't ever use cell phones when pumping gas
6) It is the vapours that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when connected with static charges.
7) There were 29 fires where the vehicle was re-entered and the nozzle was touched during refuelling from a variety of makes and models. Some resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the customer.
8) Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the gas cap was removed and before fuelling began..

Mr. Renkes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it with gas.

If you absolutely HAVE to get in your vehicle while the gas is pumping, make sure you get out, close the door TOUCHING THE METAL, before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle.

As I mentioned earlier, The Petroleum Equipment Institute, along with several other companies now, are really trying to make the public aware of this danger.

I ask you to please send this information to ALL your family and friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while pumping gas. If this were to happen to them, they may not be able to get the children out in time. Thanks for passing this along.

Babies In Movie Theaters

Yesterday, I took the family to the movies. We watched THOR which I thought was quite a good movie. I have been a comic fan for the past 20 years and I was quite concerned how they were going to do it with Thor. I had my doubts but I think they did a great job! Can't wait to see Captain America followed by the Avengers next year.

Anyways, bringing the whole family is a bit of a challenge because we have our 3rd child who is still a baby. Our darling little boy, Danish who is now just 16 months. Every time we tell people we are bringing him to the movies, people are surprised. Actually we started taking him to the movies when he was just 6 months!

For those of you who have babies, you can still enjoy a great movie with your babies. Here are a few things that we do that I can share. It might help or it might not. :)

Here are 3 Tips on How to bring Babies In Movie Theaters.

1. You have to decide that you are bringing your baby with you. This is so that you have the proper mind set. Make sure everybody in the family who is going to see the movie is aware of this as well especially your partner..
2. When you purchase the tickets make sure you buy the aisle sit. That way you can exit anytime when you need to without disrupting other people. Make sure you put the stroller in front of the front row seats so that you can collect it at the end of the movie.
3. Try to tire your baby before the movies. Play and feed him/her. It would be easier if you could get your baby to sleep as soon as the movie starts. It works for us! If the baby cries, try to feed him/her but if you can't  stop the crying leave your seat and try to soothe him/her outside. Once she is calmed down or back to sleep just reenter the theater. I remember one time my son Aiman was so scared I had to carry him throughout the movie and I had to watch the movie standing. This was when he was already a toddler. But he is braver now.

The worst thing that could happen is that you loose out on a few dollars if you can't be in the theater anymore.  But the experience and the stories you can share with your family will last a life time.

Heart Attack - A Personal Story From A Friend's Experience

I got the following story from a friend who forwarded it to me. I think it is a good read especially for all of us as you never know... a heart attack could happen to anyone. I hope that this sharing can benefit you and your loved ones. Please pass it on.

Zul’s story from himself..

Hi,
I thought of sharing my recent experience with all of you with the hope that you could gain something from it. Note the symptoms and warning signs that i will be relating. Suspecting that your are getting heart attack and making your way as fast as possible to the hospital, I think, is the key to surviving it.

So here is my story…

It was late Saturday night and I was watching a documentary on Nat. Geo. Everyone had gone to bed hours earlier. My wife had been preparing to leave for her one week trip to Institute Aminuddin Baki at Genting Highland the next morning.

It started with pain around the shoulder region spreading to the arms. My neck felt very uncomfortable.  It’s something I always get whenever I sit in a weird position for an extended time (in this case I am sitting where the TV is on my right side so I have to turn my head when watching) or I also gets it after hours in front of the computer. So I though, it’s because of the way I was sitting that causes it but I had only sat there for about 10 minutes. Earlier, I was sitting comfortable with the TV straight. So I decided I should just go to bed. After all its already about 1:30 in the morning. Normally, lying flat on the bed helps as I have done so many times after sitting for hours in front of a computer.

Just as I was going up the stairs, I started to feel a little dizzy and my stomach feels weird and warm. When I got in the bedroom, the a/c was on and it was quite cool. I lie down on the bed. Minutes later I started to sweat- cold sweat. The sweating was so bad that it started dripping from my head and the back of my ears. My stomach feels like I have eaten too much (I did not really ate a lot that night…it just felt that way).  It feels as if it I am having a bad case of indigestion and heartburn. Minutes later  I started to feel like I am going to puke.. It’s the same feeling when you get a severe headache, sweat and feels like you are going to vomit (but this time no headache).

I got up, went downstairs and grab myself minyak cap limau. I always keep this handy for stomach discomfort or “angin”. The sweating is getting worst and as I sat on the sofa, sweat started to drip on to the floor. There was so much of it that my shirt is all wet so I took it off and put my shirt on the floor where the sweat was dripping.
I drank a glass of warm water and decided to go back to the bedroom. The dizziness is still there. My arms felt numb all the way to my fingers. I thought if I could get some sleep then all of these would go away. So I lie down on the bed. I was so sleepy that in between awake and sleep I could tune to my heart beat. It sounded weird, irregular. At this point my breathing was very heavy. The warm in my stomach feels like its moving up to the chest area.

I keep thinking and trying to figure out what was going on. Is it just “angin” or indigestion or is it due to food poisoning.

I got up, went to the toilet and tried to make myself puke but couldn’t. So I came back into the bedroom and sits at the edge of the bed.. My face was already very pale, I feel very tired and the sweating was still very bad, dripping on the floor . Still sitting on the edge of the bed and feeling very tired and sleepy, I remember asking my sister in law a year earlier about the symptoms she had when she had a heart attack and it seems all the symptoms are there. I still could not believe that I am having a heart attack.

About half an hour had passed and I am still about 50-50 whether to wake up and inform my wife. Then I thought…if this is really a heart attack, then I could die tonight.  I thought of my lovely wife and my kids and finally decided to wake my wife up and inform her what is going on.. She was surprised to see my shirt was all wet and my face very pale and sweat dripping. I told her that the symptom I am having is very much like the one her sister had told me and that we should go to hospital.

It only took us about 15 minutes to make it to the hospital. When we arrived at the emergency ward, I could barely walk. I was so tired and was having difficulty breathing. I was immediately asked to lie down and an ECG was performed. An oxygen tube was placed in my nostril and I can see nurses and hospital assistants running towards me. At this point the pain had spread to the jaw and teeth.

The nurses started to poke my wrist and the back of my hands with needles. A drip was connected to my right arm while at the same time a machine that controls a small bottle of medicine was injected on my left hand. I was asked to  place a small tablet of medicine under my tongue.

Half an hour later the sweating stops and it feels a little better. In the meantime, my wife who was still waiting outside was still not informed of what had happened to me. It was 2 hours later that she started to inquire what is happening and she was told that I had suffered a major heart attack.

After completing two bottles of drips, I was then pushed into the ICU. ECG/EKG was performed every half an hour for the rest of the night as well as throughout the next day. When the doctor came in the morning, I was informed that I had suffered a major heart attack.

On  the scale of 0 to 10, where 0 means alive and 10 means dead, the doctor asked me where I think I stood. I thought for awhile and said 6.5. He said no and said that it was actually about a 9.5. I was so shocked. The doctor then started to give me a cardio 101 lesson and explained that they had injected me with the strongest clot busting drug in the world when I arrived. Clot buster thins the blood and helped to ensure blood continue to flow but does not really solve the blockage problem.

I suppose the clot buster is almost similar to the chemical we use in our kitchen sink when it gets clogged.
After 4 days in ICU I was confirmed stable and plans were being made to move me for further observation in the general ward. An appointment was made with the heart specialist in Penang GH but I had to queue for about a month before I could even see the doctor and performing an angiogram/angioplasty would then take another couple of months.

I decided I do not want to wait and asked the doctor whether I could be transferred to a private hospital. The doctor was very helpful and recommended a specialist for me at the KPJ hospital in Bandar Perda. He called up the doctor (Dr Safari) and make arrangements to send me there.

When I arrived at about 7pm, Doctor Safari greeted me. He said I was very lucky and that the fast action of going to the hospital saved me. He then scheduled for an angiogram and also an angioplasty immediately the next morning. An angiogram is to see how bad the clot was and where it is. It is also to determine the condition of the other coronary arteries (there are 3 main ones). A balloon angioplasty is to clear the blockage in the artery thus allowing blood to flow again.

The procedure took several hours with only little pain and discomfort. Although the procedure is safer than an open heart surgery, it is still dangerous and could be life threatening.  A flexible catheter is injected into the groin artery and then guided  all the way up to the heart.. Then a dye was injected and on the x-ray screen you could determine where the blockage was. I still have an 80% blockage (the clot buster I guess managed to clear about 20% which helped to allow blood to flow back into my heart. It did not resolve the problem in whole).  Was told that when a blood flow to the heart is blocked, any portion of the heart that did not get enough blood and oxygen would then die off, permanently. This then causes the heart to be weak and disrupt its efficiency. Mine was considered a major because the clog happens in the main artery which could damage a huge portion of the heart below it.

Once the blockage is determined, a small balloon is inflated to push the clogs against the artery walls and a drug coated stent (a sort of wire mesh tube) is placed to ensure the arteries do not collapse again. When the balloon is deflated and removed, the stent stays and overtime would become part of the coronary artery. The stent is treated with some types of drugs to prevent a recurrence of abnormal narrowing due to further clotting of the blood since it is made of metal and it attracts blood platelet to stick to it. I was not able to walk or even move my right leg the first 6 hours after the procedure. I spent another day in the hospital and was released the next day with a month long MC.

So what were the symptoms again?
1.       Pain around neck and shoulder region and spreading to the arms(in my case it was the left arm).
2.       Feeling of indigestion and/or heartburn. Feel warm in the stomach that slowly moves up to the chest.
3.       Pressure, fullness or pain in the center of the chest
4.       Sudden weakness, dizziness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath
Some people (men) have the classic symptoms of severe pain in the chest (feels like someone is squeezing your heart) but I only felt a little pain when I was already in hospital. The above 4 symptoms however, should be generally true to heart attacks in both men and women.

If you suspect you are getting a heart attack.  Go quickly to the hospital. Every second counts.

PS - One of the best way to reduce the risk of heart attack is to ensure that you are always maintaining your correct BMI. Make sure you are at the correct weight based on your height.
