π¨ When Teachers Learn to See Differently: Visualizing Mathematics through Freehand and AI
On 30 September 2025, Yayasan Wiba Prima, in collaboration with PPD Perak Tengah, successfully conducted a Visual Teachers Training Program specially designed for primary school Mathematics teachers (Tahap 2 – Years 4, 5 & 6).
The session was led by Dr. Ruzaimi Mat Rani, the creator of the Visualization Through Freehand (VTF) method, and Coach Amirul Mannan, founder of the Visual PIDO framework. Together, they guided teachers to rediscover the joy of seeing, thinking, and creating visually, making complex lessons more engaging and easier to understand.
π️ From Lines to Learning: The Power of Freehand Visualization
Dr. Ruzaimi shared a simple but powerful idea:
“Everyone can draw, because everyone can think.”
Through his Visualization Through Freehand (VTF) approach, teachers learned that drawing isn’t about artistic talent, but about communicating ideas clearly. By using the OUC method, which is Observe, Understand & Create, teachers were guided step-by-step to visualize key mathematics concepts through simple lines, shapes, and diagrams.
The introduction of Drawzania.com enabled teachers to explore visual references and creative templates that they could adapt instantly for classroom use. The excitement was clear; many realized how visual learning can turn abstract mathematical ideas into concrete understanding.
π‘ Bringing AI into the Classroom: The PIDO Framework
Complementing the visual approach, Coach Amirul introduced the PIDO structured prompting framework — Parameter, Instruction, Details, Output.
Through this method, teachers learned how to treat ChatGPT and other AI tools as “assistant teachers”, capable of helping them refine lesson visuals, generate creative ideas, and plan interactive learning experiences.
By combining VTF + PIDO, teachers now have a practical system to visualize lessons and use AI to validate, improve, and multiply their creativity.
πΏ Teaching with Excellence: An Islamic Perspective
The Quran reminds us in Surah Ibrahim (14:4):
“And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to make things clear for them.”
Teaching, therefore, is about clarity. When educators learn to communicate complex ideas through visuals, they bring light to understanding, making knowledge accessible to every learner.
As Rasulullah ο·Ί also said:
“Indeed, Allah loves that when anyone of you does something, he does it with excellence (itqan).” (Riwayat al-Baihaqi)
The Visual Teachers program embodies this spirit, encouraging teachers to teach with excellence, creativity, and clarity.
π Moving Forward
This training marks another important step in the Visual Teachers Initiative, empowering educators to merge creativity, technology, and pedagogy for impactful classroom experiences.
The participants left inspired, not only with new drawing skills but with a renewed sense of purpose: to help students see what they learn.
