The Hidden Cost of Miscommunication in Companies

The Hidden Cost of Miscommunication in Companies

Did you know?

Studies show that companies lose $2,400 per employee every year due to miscommunication. Now imagine a company with 100 employees, that’s a staggering $240,000 gone annually simply because the message wasn’t clear.

When we think of business losses, we often point to sales, competitors, or the economy. But rarely do we acknowledge the silent killer of productivity: poor communication.

A Real-World Example

Think of a meeting where the CEO presents a new initiative. If the explanation is too technical, too vague, or not engaging, employees walk away confused. Some may do the wrong tasks, some may delay decisions, and others may lose motivation altogether.

Now multiply that across departments, projects, and deadlines; the financial and emotional costs compound quickly.

This is where Visual Communication and Design Thinking can transform leaders and teams. Instead of long slides full of text, visuals make the message clear, engaging, and unforgettable.

Quran & Hadith Insights

The Qur’an itself is the best example of clear communication. Allah SWT says:

“And We have certainly made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?”
(Surah Al-Qamar 54:17)

This verse reminds us that clarity and simplicity are divine values in communication. The Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί also said:

“Speak to people according to their level of understanding.”
(Hadith narrated by Muslim)

As leaders, we are reminded that our role is not just to deliver information, but to ensure it is understood and acted upon.

Lessons for Leaders & Teams

  1. Clarity is currency – Every unclear instruction costs money, time, and morale.

  2. Visuals amplify understanding – People remember 80% of what they see compared to only 20% of what they read.

  3. Communication is leadership – A leader who communicates well leads well.

Call-to-Action

If you’re a CEO, manager, or HR leader, ask yourself: How much is miscommunication costing your company today?

9 Rare Traits That Set High Performers Apart

9 Rare Traits That Set High Performers Apart

In any organization, there are always those few individuals who stand out. They are the go-getters, the ones who make things happen, and those who deliver not just results, but excellence. Interestingly, these high performers are not always leaders of others, but they are always leaders of themselves.

They carry within them a strong sense of responsibility, a deep commitment to deliver, and a personal pride to ensure that the job is not only done but done to the very best standard. These are the traits that distinguish high performers and the values we need to instill in our younger generation.

But here’s the challenge: in today’s world of AI, social media, and instant gratification, these traits are slowly disappearing. More and more people look for shortcuts, the easy way out. Yet to truly succeed, to become a high performer, we need to rise above the noise and commit ourselves to continuous growth, self-discipline, and excellence.

A Real-Life Example

I once worked with a teacher who was part of our Visual Teachers Training Program. At the beginning, she was overwhelmed with the idea of creating a lesson plan that was engaging, visually clear, and rated “10/10.” But with effort and consistency, she began to see the difference in her classroom. Her students were not only more attentive but also performed better because the lessons were delivered with clarity and enthusiasm.

Her story highlights a key truth: what you put in is what you get out. When you deliver your best, you inspire the best in others.

Islamic Wisdom on Striving for Excellence

Islam teaches us to be the best in everything we do, never settling for mediocrity. Allah ο·» says in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, Allah loves those who rely upon Him.” (Surah Al-Imran, 3:159)

Reliance on Allah does not mean sitting idle; it means putting in our best effort while trusting Him with the outcome.

The Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί also emphasized this:

“Verily, Allah has prescribed excellence (ihsan) in all things.” (Sahih Muslim)

Excellence (ihsan) is not optional; it is a way of life. Whether it’s teaching a class, leading a team, running a business, or even performing small daily tasks, the believer is encouraged to strive for the highest standard.

The 9 Traits of High Performers

A recent framework identifies nine rare traits that consistently set high performers apart:

  1. Strategic Optimism – Turning chaos into opportunities.

  2. Extreme Ownership – Taking full accountability.

  3. Adaptive Curiosity – Asking the right questions.

  4. Relentless Learning – Evolving faster than others.

  5. Quiet Confidence – Letting actions speak louder than words.

  6. Execution Over Perfection – Acting instead of waiting.

  7. Energy Multipliers – Elevating everyone around them.

  8. Resilient Grit – Persisting through challenges.

  9. Creative Problem-Solving – Turning obstacles into opportunities.

Imagine if our young people embraced even half of these traits; the impact would be transformational.

Key Lessons

  • Success requires discipline, consistency, and self-leadership.

  • Islam teaches us never to settle for “just enough” but to embody excellence.

  • What we give to others will return to us: “What goes around, comes around.”

So the next time you prepare a lesson plan, write a proposal, or lead a project, ask yourself: Is this a 10/10 effort?

When you deliver your best, you attract the best.

Call-to-Action

Commit today to adopt at least one of these nine traits. Be the high performer who not only delivers results but inspires others to rise higher. 🌟

Unlock Your Communication Potential with Profits from Visuals

Unlock Your Communication Potential with Profits from Visuals

Alhamdulillah, our book Profits from Visuals is now available at MPH Bookstores and Popular Bookstores across Malaysia! This is a milestone we are truly grateful for because it means more people can now access the powerful techniques we have been teaching through our signature programs: Visual Leaders and Visual Teachers.

For years, we have trained thousands of individuals and organizations on how to communicate effectively using Visualization Through Freehand (VTF). This book is not just a guide; it’s a textbook, a manual, and a lifelong reference for anyone who wants to master the art of simplifying complex ideas into visuals that connect, clarify, and convince.

A Real-Life Story: From Confusion to Clarity

I still remember one training session with a group of corporate leaders who were struggling to present their ideas to their teams. They had the data, the facts, and the vision, but every meeting ended with confusion and disengagement.

During the training, we introduced them to VTF and how to break down information visually, using simple sketches and keywords. By the end of the day, the same leaders who previously struggled were drawing out strategies on flipcharts, presenting with confidence, and, most importantly, engaging their teams like never before.

One participant told us, “I’ve been giving presentations for years, but this is the first time I felt everyone understood me instantly.” That is the transformative power of visuals.

Insights from the Quran & Hadith

The importance of clear communication is emphasized in our faith:

  • Surah Ibrahim (14:4):
“And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them…”
This verse reminds us that effective communication requires clarity and relatability.

  • Hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari:
“Make things simple for the people, and do not make it difficult for them…”
This hadith highlights the importance of simplifying our messages so they can be easily understood.

VTF aligns perfectly with these principles, transforming complex information into visuals that speak to people’s hearts and minds.

Lessons for Individuals and Organizations

Here are some key takeaways when you get Profits from Visuals:

  1. Clarity Wins: Visuals cut through complexity and make your message easy to remember.

  2. Engagement Multiplies: Whether in classrooms or boardrooms, visuals hold attention longer.

  3. Action Follows Understanding: People act on what they truly understand.

When individuals and organizations master VTF, they not only communicate better but also inspire action, align teams, and ultimately drive results.

Call to Action

If you’ve attended our Visual Leaders or Visual Teachers programs, this book is your perfect companion. If you haven’t, this is your chance to learn what thousands have experienced: the power of visuals in transforming communication.

Profits from Visuals is available at major bookstores and can also be ordered online for your convenience.

10 Life-Changing Principles from Ray Dalio Through the Lens of Islam

Title: 10 Life-Changing Principles from Ray Dalio Through the Lens of Islam

Sometimes, wisdom finds its way to us in unexpected ways. Today, an online friend from Poland shared with me Ray Dalio’s Principles: Life and Work. Curious, I turned to ChatGPT for a quick summary and got a list of ten powerful principles. Reading through them, I realized how closely they align with the timeless teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.

So, here’s my reflection, through the story of a man, a book, and how universal truths can guide our daily lives.

A Quick Story to Set the Scene

I remember once, during a leadership training, a participant asked me, “What’s the one thing that makes a leader truly effective?” My answer was simple: the ability to face reality and keep learning. Leaders who avoid reality fall into denial, but those who embrace it with humility, reflection, and action keep growing.

That’s why the first two principles from Ray Dalio resonated so deeply with me:

  1. Embrace Reality & Deal With It

  2. Pain + Reflection = Progress

In Islam, the Quran reminds us:

“Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.” (Surah Ash-Sharh, 94:6)

This verse tells us that challenges are part of life’s design, and growth comes when we learn from them.

The Ten Principles Aligned with Quran & Sunnah

  1. Embrace Reality & Deal With It
Don’t run away from problems. The Prophet ο·Ί said:

“The strong man is not the one who can overpower others, but the one who controls himself when angry.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Facing reality requires courage, humility, and emotional control.

  2. Pain + Reflection = Progress
Mistakes are not failures; they’re lessons. Take time to reflect, and improvement follows naturally.

  3. Be Radically Open-Minded
Listen to perspectives different from yours. The Quran encourages consultation:

“…and those who have responded to their master and established prayer and whose affairs are [determined] by consultation among themselves…” (Surah Ash-Shura, 42:38)

  4. Be Radically Transparent
Islam values honesty and trustworthiness. Openness creates stronger relationships and better decisions.

  5. Think in Systems / Algorithms
Life is full of cause-and-effect patterns. Understanding them helps us make wiser choices.

  6. Use Believability-Weighted Decisions
Not all advice carries equal weight. Listen more to those with experience and wisdom — like the Quran’s advice to seek knowledge from people of understanding (Surah An-Nahl, 16:43).

  7. Know Your Weaknesses
Self-awareness is the key to growth. Umar ibn Al-Khattab RA used to say, “May Allah have mercy on the one who shows me my faults.”

  8. Get the Right People in the Right Roles
The Prophet ο·Ί placed people according to their strengths — a principle that built a thriving community.

  9. Don’t Confuse Goals with Tasks
Goals are the vision; tasks are the steps. Keep the big picture in focus.

  10. Keep Iterating
Life is about progress, not perfection. Keep improving, little by little, every day.

Lessons for Daily Life

  • Face problems with courage and faith.

  • Learn from mistakes instead of fearing them.

  • Surround yourself with honest, capable people.

  • Stay humble, open-minded, and willing to grow.

When we align modern wisdom with divine guidance, we gain clarity and balance in life.

Visual Teachers Kuala Kangsar 2025: Transformasi Pengajaran Melalui Visualization & AI

Visual Teachers Kuala Kangsar 2025: Transformasi Pengajaran Melalui Visualization & AI

Pengenalan

Inspirasi & Nilai

Seperti sabda Nabi Muhammad SAW:

Study Smart, Not Hard: Mastering the SQ3R Method for Success

Study Smart, Not Hard: Mastering the SQ3R Method for Success

Do you ever feel like you spend hours reading but don’t remember much afterward? Or that no matter how much you study, the results just don’t seem to match your effort? The truth is, it’s not just about working harder; it’s about working smarter.

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones once said, “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” This powerful reminder shows us that learning and growth are keys to transformation. But here’s the secret: learning itself is a skill, and like any skill, it has proven techniques that can help you do it better.

One such technique is the SQ3R Method, a time-tested approach that top students, professionals, and even lifelong learners use to master any subject effectively. Whether you’re a student aiming for better grades, a parent wanting to help your child excel, or a professional seeking to upgrade your knowledge, SQ3R offers a structured path to success.

The Story of Sarah: From Overwhelmed to Outstanding

Sarah was a university student struggling with information overload. She read chapters over and over but couldn’t retain much. Frustration grew until one day, her mentor introduced her to the SQ3R method.

She tried it out: first surveying the material for the big picture, turning headings into questions, then reading actively, reciting key points aloud, and finally reviewing her notes consistently.

Within weeks, she noticed a change, she remembered more, understood concepts deeply, and even had time left to pursue other interests. What changed? Not the number of hours she studied, but the way she studied.

What is SQ3R?

The SQ3R Method stands for:

  • Survey: Skim the chapter first. Look at titles, headings, bolded terms, diagrams, and summaries to get the big picture.

  • Question: Turn headings into questions before reading. This makes your brain curious and keeps you engaged.

  • Read: Now read thoroughly, looking for answers to the questions you created.

  • Recite: Summarize key points in your own words. Teaching yourself out loud helps solidify understanding.

  • Review: Revisit your notes regularly. Repetition strengthens memory.

This five-step approach transforms reading from a passive activity into an active, meaningful learning process.

Insights from the Quran & Hadith

The pursuit of knowledge is deeply valued in Islam. Allah says in the Quran:

“Say, ‘Are those who know equal to those who do not know?’”
(Surah Az-Zumar 39:9)

And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 3641)

Both remind us that learning with purpose and discipline is not only beneficial for this life but is also rewarded in the Hereafter.

Lessons for All of Us

  • Frameworks create focus: Having a system like SQ3R keeps your mind engaged and prevents wasted effort.

  • Active learning beats passive reading: Asking questions and reciting information helps with long-term retention.

  • Consistency compounds results: Regular review builds mastery over time.

Just like Sarah, anyone can move from overwhelmed to outstanding by using the right techniques.

Call-to-Action

If you want to study smarter, not harder, start with SQ3R today. Try it for one chapter and feel the difference!

Mindset is Everything: Your Greatest Asset in Life

Mindset is Everything: Your Greatest Asset in Life

Mindset is Everything: Your Greatest Asset in Life

Life often throws challenges our way. Some people crumble under pressure, while others rise and thrive despite the same circumstances. The difference? Mindset.

We live in a world where knowledge, technology, and opportunities are abundant. Yet, it is not the most talented or the most intelligent who succeed—it is often those with the strongest, most resilient mindset.

As Henry Ford once said:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”

What he meant was simple: your thoughts shape your reality. If you believe you can achieve something, you activate the creativity, discipline, and perseverance needed to make it happen. On the other hand, if you convince yourself you cannot, you sabotage your potential before even starting.

A Real-Life Story: Michael Jordan’s Mindset

Michael Jordan, considered by many as the greatest basketball player of all time, wasn’t even selected for his high school varsity basketball team on his first try. Most people would have taken this as proof that they weren’t good enough.

But Jordan saw it differently. He used that disappointment as fuel, practicing relentlessly and training his mind to stay focused, determined, and hungry for success. Years later, he famously said:

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

His mindset transformed every failure into a stepping stone toward greatness.

Quran & Hadith Insights

The Quran reminds us:

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d, 13:11)

This verse emphasizes personal responsibility. Before seeking external change, we must first cultivate internal strength, faith, and determination.

Similarly, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.” (Sahih Muslim)

Strength here is not only physical but also mental and spiritual—the ability to persevere, to have patience, to remain hopeful, and to keep striving despite setbacks.

Lessons We Can Learn

  1. Your mind is your compass. It will either guide you toward your dreams or keep you trapped in fear and doubt.

  2. Train your thoughts. Just like muscles, your mindset grows stronger with practice—through reading, reflection, prayer, and surrounding yourself with positive influences.

  3. See obstacles as opportunities. Every challenge carries a lesson. Those who rise above difficulties are those who see trials as temporary, not permanent.

  4. Faith fuels mindset. When you believe that Allah is with you, even the hardest journey becomes easier.

Call-to-Action

So, what’s stopping you today? Train your mind, strengthen your faith, and take the first step toward your goals. Your mindset is your greatest asset—protect it, nurture it, and use it to build the life you dream of.

5 Rules to Keep People Engaged During Your Talk – and Why It Matters

5 Rules to Keep People Engaged During Your Talk – and Why It Matters

In today’s fast-paced digital world, keeping people’s attention during a talk is no small feat. Our minds are constantly bombarded with notifications, videos, and endless streams of information. The average attention span has dramatically decreased, and if you’ve ever spoken to a group, from children in a classroom to adults in a seminar, you know the challenge is real.

So, how do we ensure our words truly resonate? How do we make sure people stay engaged from start to finish?

I once delivered a talk to a group of college students. At first, they seemed attentive, but within minutes, eyes drifted toward phones, and a few even looked half-asleep. That was when I changed my approach. Instead of talking at them, I began drawing simple visuals on the whiteboard while speaking. Instantly, their heads turned. Phones were put away. Questions started flowing.

That day, I realized: it’s not just what you say, but how you say it, and how you keep people engaged along the way.

The infographic above outlines 5 Rules to Keep People Engaged During Your Talk, and I’ve found them incredibly powerful. Let’s break them down with insights from the Quran and Hadith to inspire us to become better communicators.

1. The Rule of Abstraction – Move from Abstract to Concrete

Start with big ideas, then bring them down to earth with stories and examples.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) often used parables and stories to teach profound lessons. As narrated in Sahih Bukhari, he once compared guidance and knowledge to life-giving rain, describing how different types of land respond differently to water, a powerful image that everyone could visualize and remember.

Lesson: Begin with concepts, but end with relatable, real-life examples.

2. The Rule of Controversy – Keep It Spicy

People pay attention when they hear something unexpected. Start by presenting a common belief before introducing your point.

The Quran says:

“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:125)

Instead of simply stating facts, acknowledge what people already think, then gently challenge or expand it.

3. The One Problem Rule – Stay Focused

One talk, one main problem. Don’t try to solve everything in one go.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) would speak in a way that was short, concise, and meaningful. His companions said, “He would speak clearly so that everyone understood, and he would not burden people with long speeches.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)

Lesson: Focus on one main message for maximum impact.

4. The Rule of Suspense – Build Curiosity

Don’t reveal all your points upfront. Share one idea at a time to keep people curious.

Think of it like reading a book; if you know the ending on page one, would you keep reading?

Lesson: Create suspense in your delivery. Keep people wondering, “What’s next?”

5. The 2-Minute Rule – Keep Changing Things Up

Attention fades quickly. Switch between stories, visuals, charts, or even memes every 1–2 minutes.

That day with the college students, my simple act of drawing turned a boring lecture into a lively discussion. It wasn’t magic; it was about changing the rhythm so people stayed awake and curious.

Lesson: Variety isn’t just fun, it’s essential for engagement.

Final Thoughts

As speakers, trainers, or educators, our goal isn’t just to talk. It’s to connect, inspire, and leave people with something valuable.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Speak to people according to their level of understanding.” (Sahih Bukhari)

Today, that means speaking with wisdom, creativity, and structure so our message truly lands.

So, the next time you deliver a talk, try using these 5 Rules, and maybe even draw as you speak. You might be surprised at how powerful it can be.

One-Sentence Call-to-Action

Want your next talk to be unforgettable? Apply these 5 rules today!

Choose Your Hard: The Power of Deliberate Choices

Choose Your Hard: The Power of Deliberate Choices

“If you don’t choose your hard, your hard will choose you.”Unknown

Life is full of challenges. Whether it’s staying healthy, building wealth, nurturing relationships, or growing spiritually, nothing worthwhile comes easy. The truth is simple: you can’t avoid hardship, but you can choose which hardship you want to endure.

Everyday Choices, Everyday Hardships

We all want the best in life: good health, financial stability, fulfilling relationships, and spiritual peace. But here’s the catch: each goal comes with its own set of challenges.

Take health, for example. Controlling your diet, waking up early to exercise, and saying no to unhealthy cravings is tough. But what’s tougher? Battling lifestyle diseases like diabetes or heart problems later in life.

The same goes for finances. Working hard, saving money, and making sacrifices today is tough. But living with financial stress and unfulfilled dreams because of poor choices is even harder.

In the end, we all face hardship. The question is: which hardship leads to the life you want?

A Real-Life Example: A Friend’s Journey

A close friend of mine struggled with weight issues for years. He loved food, hated exercise, and always promised himself he’d “start tomorrow.”

One day, a health scare changed everything; his blood pressure shot up, and the doctor warned him about possible heart complications. Suddenly, the “hard” he had been avoiding- exercise, healthy eating, self-control- seemed far easier than living with chronic illness.

Within a year, he lost 20 kg, started running marathons, and now inspires others with his story. He always says, “I wish I had chosen the hard earlier—before the hard chose me.”

Quranic and Hadith Insights

The Quran reminds us that hardship is temporary, and with struggle comes ease:

“For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.”
(Surah Al-Inshirah, 94:5-6)

The Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί also taught the value of effort and delayed gratification:

“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2664)

Strength here is not just physical; it is spiritual, mental, and emotional. It comes from discipline, resilience, and making the right choices even when it’s tough.

Lessons We Can Take

  1. Hardship is unavoidable – but we have the power to decide which hardship will shape our lives.

  2. Delayed gratification pays off – choosing short-term struggles often leads to long-term rewards.

  3. Faith gives strength – knowing that Allah promises ease after hardship helps us stay patient and hopeful.

  4. Action beats intention – waiting for “the right time” only lets hardship choose us instead.

Call-to-Action

So today, ask yourself: Which hard will I choose? Will you choose the hard that leads to growth, health, wealth, and peace, or the hard that comes from neglecting these choices?

Choose wisely. Choose your hard.

Respect is Earned, Not Given: 12 Habits That Will Transform Your Life and Career

Respect is Earned, Not Given: 12 Habits That Will Transform Your Life and Career

Inspired by @ryan-yockey

Everyone talks about wanting respect. We want respect at work, at home, in our community. But the reality is this: respect isn’t something you demand, it’s something you earn.

Your age, title, or seniority may give you authority, but it does not guarantee respect. True respect comes when people look at you and say, “I trust this person. I admire their character.”

The best way to start earning respect? Give it freely first.

The Quran reminds us:

“And speak to people good words.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:83)

And the Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί said:

“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

This means respect, kindness, and dignity are at the heart of faith, and at the heart of every meaningful relationship.

A Personal Story: When Respect Changes Everything

Years ago, I met a young executive in a large corporation. He was talented, ambitious, and had just been promoted. But he told me he felt invisible; people listened to him because of his title, not because they truly respected him.

One day, he decided to change his approach. Instead of walking into meetings trying to prove he was the smartest person in the room, he started listening first. He gave credit to his team when things went well and took responsibility when things didn’t.

Over time, something remarkable happened. His team started opening up. They trusted him more, worked harder for him, and even defended him in leadership meetings.

What changed? He stopped chasing respect and started cultivating it, habit by habit.

12 Habits of Highly Respected Professionals

These habits aren’t about perfection. They’re about consistency, humility, and genuine care for others. Let’s break them down with real-life examples:

  1. Do what you say you’ll do
Reliability builds trust. Think of the colleague who always delivers on time—you respect them because you can count on them.

  2. Respect everyone, regardless of position
I once saw a CEO who knew the janitor’s name and asked about his family every morning. That simple act of respect made everyone admire him.

  3. Give credit, never take it
Great leaders shine the spotlight on others. When a project succeeds, they say, “My team made this happen,” not “I made this happen.”

  4. Listen more than you talk
People feel valued when they’re heard. A respected teacher once told me, “I listen twice as much as I speak. That’s how I learn.”

  5. Handle mistakes with grace
Everyone makes mistakes. But owning them without excuses? That’s what earns admiration.

  6. Admit when you don’t know something
Pretending to know everything pushes people away. Humility draws them closer.

  7. Stay calm under pressure
In moments of chaos, the calmest person in the room becomes the anchor everyone relies on.

  8. Ask for feedback and use it
A manager who says, “Tell me how I can do better,” shows strength, not weakness.

  9. Stay consistent, even when it’s hard
No shortcuts. No excuses. Just steady progress, that’s how credibility is built.

  10. Stand up for what’s right
Even when it’s unpopular, integrity speaks louder than convenience.

  11. Set boundaries and respect others’
Healthy limits show maturity and foster mutual respect.

  12. Make others feel valued
People may forget what you say, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.

Wisdom from Islam: Respect as a Way of Life

The Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί said:

“The most beloved of people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to the people.” (al-Mu’jam al-Awsaṭ)

Being beneficial includes respecting others, honoring their dignity, and making them feel seen and heard.

Another Hadith says:

“He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect to our elders.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi)

Respect isn’t a corporate skill. It’s a life skill.

Your Challenge: Start Small, Start Today

You don’t have to change everything overnight. Pick one habit from the list and practice it this week. Maybe it’s listening more. Maybe it’s giving credit to someone on your team.

Respect grows over time. Like planting a seed, you water it daily with small actions until it becomes a tree that gives shade to everyone around you.

Final Thoughts

When you focus on giving respect rather than chasing it, something shifts. People see your character, not just your title.

Because at the end of the day, people respect those who respect others.

A Wake-Up Call: My Journey to Health and Faith After 50

A Wake-Up Call: My Journey to Health and Faith After 50

Last year, life handed me a moment I will never forget.

It was early in the morning when I felt a strange tightness in my chest. At first, I thought it was fatigue or stress. But that day turned out to be the day I had a mild heart attack, a wake-up call that shook me to my core.

I had always thought of myself as someone healthy enough. Yes, I was busy with work, meetings, projects, and family responsibilities, but I believed I was managing fine. Then this happened, and it forced me to pause. It was as if Allah SWT was telling me, “Slow down. Take care of the body I have entrusted to you.”

Ever since that day, I have been doing regular 6-month medical check-ups.

The Latest Check-Up: More Lessons for Me

Today was another check-up day. I walked into the clinic expecting routine updates, but this time, my doctor had more to say:

  • My left foot now suffers from plantar fasciitis—an inflammation that makes walking painful. He told me it’s part of aging and something I have to manage for life.

  • And then came the real shock: I’m pre-diabetic.

It hit me hard. Diabetes runs in many families, and I’ve seen people struggle with it. My doctor advised me to watch my sugar intake, start eating better, and exercise regularly.

I sat there reflecting: Here I am, at the age of 50, being reminded again that health is a blessing I cannot afford to neglect.

The Turning Point: A Simple 15-Minute Routine

I left the clinic determined to make a change, starting small but consistently. I came across this 15-minute morning workout routine that doesn’t need any fancy equipment or gym membership:

  • 20 Jumping Jacks

  • 20 Squats

  • 20 Lunges

  • 10 Push-ups

  • 40 Punches

  • 60 seconds Elbow Plank

Repeat 3 times, with 2 minutes rest in between.

It’s simple. It’s doable. It’s a start.

Stories That Inspire Me

I think of my mother, who, in her 70s, never misses her Tai Chi sessions. Even with knee pain, she moves at her own pace. She once told me, “Son, if you stop moving, you start aging twice as fast.”

I remember a friend who was once overweight, stressed, and constantly falling sick. A doctor gave him a choice: start exercising or start taking lifelong medication. He chose exercise. Today, he runs marathons.

And of course, there is the inspiring story of the Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί, who emphasized moderation in eating and regular physical activity. He once said:

“The son of Adam fills no vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one-third with food, one-third with drink, and one-third with air.”
— [Sunan Ibn Majah]

Health and Faith: A Divine Trust

Our health is an amanah—a trust from Allah SWT. The Quran says:

“Do not throw yourselves with your own hands into destruction.”
— [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:195]

And the Prophet ο·Ί reminded us:

“There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time.”
— [Sahih Bukhari]

I realize now that taking care of my body is not just about living longer, it’s about living well enough to perform solat, to serve my family, to help my community, and to worship Allah SWT until my last breath.

The Real Wealth: Health

Many people chase wealth, titles, and possessions. But when health fails, nothing else matters. As someone told me once, “A healthy person has a thousand dreams; a sick person has only one.”

That’s why I’m sharing this today—not because I have it all figured out, but because I want to remind myself and you: start now. Take that walk. Do those 20 squats. Say no to the extra sugar.

Small steps today prevent bigger problems tomorrow.

A Personal Prayer

May Allah SWT grant us all:

  • Good health in our bodies

  • Strength in our faith

  • The ability to worship Him with ease

Ameen.

Your Turn

If you’re reading this, don’t wait for a health scare to make a change. Start small, stay consistent, and pray for barakah in your health. Share this with someone who needs a reminder today.
